Le Belle Maman- The Beautiful Mom (Belle means Beautiful, hence Belle's name)
Heyy everyone, as always it's Amber! I have ah-mazing news about Belle! I have concluded that she must've laid her eggs in our backyard in an area of prickers that is so thick, it acts as a house letting barely any rain through. She no longer flies to any ponds, after I feed her she simply heads back to the brook. Also, we have found soft feathers which females use to line their nests with. Not only that but her behavior is becoming abnormal, and she is acting like
Martha when her eggs had hatched. Beau lets her eat all the bread, won't go near her, and he has moved to another pond but flies back to my house to gather up Belle for their daily feedings. Belle has become more skittish, she rushes the feedings and leaves right after, and over the weekend and today, Belle lets out these ear- piercing quacks, we can't figure out why. When she let out her quacks today, it was so loud I was able to hear her in my house with all the doors and windows closed, I am thinking that this call may have to do with her eggs. Possibly, it can mean that her eggs are at the point of hatching (which I am greatly hoping). Unfortunately, the weather where we are has been on quite the rollercoaster ride. All last week it rained, this week it is supposed to be in the 50's and there are frost advisories. It is also supposed to be windy, foggy, and some rain possibly this week. This weather won't be a good thing for the eggs or ducklings, but if they survive, a dose of reality to start off their lives. Thankfully, it's looking like Belle's instincts have been in full swing. She doesn't come to eat when it's raining, only if there is a break in the rain. When this happens, she goes right back to her nest. When it gets cold, she leaves her nest for a very short amount of time(such as today). She stays just long enough to eat and then goes right back to her nest. Also, she is afraid of predators. Sherbet came to visit us Saturday, and Belle gave him warning quacks. But Sherbet the gentle giant was looking to harm Belle, for he just likes to make friends. By the way, I may be entering Beau, Belle (and their ducklings if they're born by the photo date) in a photo contest. I will show you the picture choices at a later date.
P.S. As Amanda has said before, her grandpa was sick and in the hospital. Unfortunately his illness brought him to death over the weekend, Amanda may not be posting for awhile. And speaking of not posting for awhile, as summer nears the corner, we will be able to most more because we won't have to worry about school.
